If you're a devotee of the world of erotic cinema, there's one United States festival that keeps setting the standard for pervy purveyances and sleazy celluloid. This year CineKink NYC celebrates its fifth year, opening February 26 and running through March 2, 2008. CineKink describes itself as "an annual film festival and national screening tour that celebrates and explores the wide diversity of sexuality. Presented by CineKink, an organization dedicated to the recognition and encouragement of sex-positive and kink-friendly depictions in film and television, works showcased by the festival range from documentary to drama, camp comedy to hot porn -- and everything in between."
Part 2 of the opening Gala is Team Queen, described as "a colorful music video for the group Triple Creme that features some of the best in New York burlesque in a gender-bending, fire-breathing, tassel-twirling, post-punk rock 'n roll extravaganza." Last but far from least on opening night is A Dog's Tale, the directorial debut from Eros Zine fave Steven Speliotis: "a sensuous and layered reverie on control and submission, longing and desire." Says Program Director Lisa Vandever: "We didn't set out to highlight New York directors necessarily, that was just a happy accident. We knew we wanted to do something splashy for our fifth annual kick off and we were looking for works that would hold up to presentation in a party environment."
Things continue heating up with the Wednesday program for the CineKink Tribute. This tribute recognizes "the extraordinary depiction of kink in mainstream film and television." They usually hold off announcing the winner, but the organizers say this year "the first choice was so obvious, we figured we might as well jump in right away with the honors." The winner is John Cameron Mitchell's Shortbus, which will be shown Wednesday, February 27th, preceded by Signe Baumane's short "Teat Beat of Sex." The program starts at 7pm. Later that night at 9:30, see a series of excerpts known as "New York Stories." There'll be juicy bites of sexual entertainment from Radley Metzger's 1977 film Barbara Broadcast, 18 minutes from Audacia Ray's The Bi Apple, Venus Hottentot's Afrodite Superstar, Executive Produced by Candida Royalle, Michael Lucas and Tony DiMarco's The Intern, and Porno Jim's Hookin' Up. Thursday, February 28th sees the 7pm program "Triple X Selects: The Best of Lezsploitation," compiled by Michelle Johnson, aka DJ Triple X. Add to Thursday's program the world premiere of T. Arthur Cottam's "Dirty Words: The Letter C," Ronnie Cramer's "Pillow Girl" and "Highway Amazon;" a second program at 9pm will feature Anna Biller's Viva. Friday the 29th brings a 7pm showing of Scott Bloom's Call Me Troy and, at 9:15, Robin Franzi's Susan For Now, preceded by the World Premieres of Charles Lum's "F/F" and Lars Joakim Ringom's "The Gay Leatherman," featuring Norwegian S/M activist Svein Skeid. Later that night you can check out Maria Beatty's incomparable Sex Mannequin and Shine Louise Houston's amazing Superfreak. Saturday, March 1, at 1pm, get ready for a shorts program featuring sexy animation and a 30-minute cut of Roy Karch's Insertz. At 3pm, see another shorts program, this one called "Chick Flicks" -- women-directed shorts with explicit sex. 5pm brings a panel called "Women Behind the Lens," in which women directors discuss their roles within the industry and their approaches to depicting sexuality. "Mix, Match & Mingle" goes down at 7pm, a shorts program looking at "the delights of moving beyond the standard couple." At 9pm, see a set of kinky shorts known as "Give & Take," exploring the dynamics of sexual power, dominance and submission, including Eros Zine fave Julie Simone's "Anonymity." Saturday rounds out with Bill Reichardt's fantastic eroto-cyberpunk short "Breed" and Randy Greif's The Three Trials. Sunday, March 2, at 1pm see the NYC premiere of the vintage-porn clipshow Annie Sprinkle's Herstory of Porn from Dr. Sprinkle and Scarlot Harlot, plus Sprinkle's 1999 clipshow "Art of the Loop" with Jeff Fletcher. At 3pm, check out the "Sunday How-To Sex-O-Rama," a selection of excerpts from "top-notch educational and how-to offerings." Then, at 5pm, see the US Premiere of Maria Beatty's new Silken Sleeves, preceded by H.P. Cumings's short "Crossing" and Steven Speliotis's "A Dog's Tale." That night at 7pm, come out for the Awards Celebration and "drink a toast to this year's fantastic crop of CineKink filmmakers!" At 9pm, mingle and mix at the Afterglow Party, with featured works Madison Young's Bondage Boob Tube, Shine L. Houston's The Crash Pad, Michael Lucas & Toni DiMarco's The Intern, Petra Joy's Sexual Sushi, and Anna Span's Southwark Sugar. Be sure to check out CineKink.com for locations and other info, including all the details on films in the shorts programs.
